Poplin is a fabric that has a fine and tight rib; it is absorbent, supple and slightly silky. To obtain poplin, weavers use a warp thread that is finer than the weft thread. Originally, it was made with a cotton warp and a twisted woolen weft. It is often used for shirts, bodices and dresses.
